Stu Bauer
Owner
Stu Bauer, a native of Norfolk, Nebraska, founded Bauer Underground (formally Bauer Trenching) in 1997, following his service in the Army as an Airborne Combat Engineer. Stu’s dedication to hard work led him to purchase a single Ditch Witch that transformed a one-man trenching operation into the three-company enterprise we know today, employing hundreds of the best in the business.
The Bauer family of companies now includes
Bauer Underground, Bauer Infrastructure, and
Brandt Excavating.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Stu remains
committed to the community, firmly believing in the importance of supporting local organizations in the region. More than his dedication to Nebraska, he believes in ensuring that the Bauer Family of Companies is a place where employees know they are valued and can have long lasting
careers.

Mike Boardman
General Manager
With nearly 40 years in the excavation industry, Mike Boardman has truly worked his way up from the ground level. He began his career as a laborer and earned his way to Foreman by the age of 22. From there, Mike spent years as a heavy equipment operator and Superintendent and continued working his way through the ranks to his current role as General Manager at Brandt Excavating.
Mike has spent more than half of his career with Brandt Excavating, where he has had the opportunity to learn from and work alongside some of the best in the business. He credits the mentors and colleagues who have helped shape his career, especially Rick Brandt, who has been a mentor and influence throughout much of Mike’s professional journey.
Mike brings a strong work ethic and a genuine commitment to doing things the right way. He believes in the importance of family, hard work, and taking pride in the job at hand. Whether he’s overseeing a project, working with a customer, or helping the next generation learn the trade, Mike always strives to do his best and make sure the customer is satisfied.
While Mike enjoys spending weekends with family and friends whenever he can, his true passion has always been dirt. He enjoys the work, the equipment, and perhaps most of all teaching and mentoring others who share his interest in excavation, have a strong work ethic, and a desire to learn.
After nearly four decades in the industry, Mike still enjoys getting the job done and helping others grow along the way.
